AITS Mobile Application Strategy

The demand for mobile applications is growing rapidly across the University and worldwide. Today’s administrative users and college students are comfortable with mobile technology and have expectations of accessing data and applications through their mobile devices. In order to better support our clients and our users, it is imperative for AITS to be able to support mobile initiatives across the campuses.

AITS has developed a mobile strategy based upon industry trends and emerging standards. The mobile application environment is fluid and rapidly changing. Therefore, the strategies and approaches adopted by AITS are geared towards maximum flexibility and adaptability. It is AITS’s goal to build long-lasting reliable applications as well as support campus initiatives as the campus mobile needs and strategies emerge.

AITS supports mobile application development by focusing on three primary areas:

1. Create web services to support mobile initiatives both internally and from other departments and colleges
2. Develop mobile web and mobile-aware web apps in-house
3. Develop native apps when it’s the only option that will satisfy our client's needs

The focus of AITS’s efforts in mobile development is administrative applications. AITS does not typically build department specific applications but will openly collaborate and share expertise with other units.
